![]() ![]() Why did you state your belief that K 3439xx is not the serial number? Is there a different number on the bottom of the grip or is the number missing there? You can usually get the ship date down to a month/year by calling S&W. The Serial may be stamped inside the barrel ejector rod housing, on the back end of the cylinder, and/or under the swing-out yoke but on the bottom of the butt is the REAL SERIAL NUMBER S&W did not ship in Serial Number order thus finding the exact ship date would require a $50 letter from Roy Jinks the S&W Historian. Your serial of K3439xx Should be a late 1958 gun and if model stamped should be a Model 19 without a dash number. Serial Numbers are found on the bottom of the butt of the revolvers. ![]() The Model 19 was discontinued around 1999. The series started in 1955 with the Serial Number around K 260001 and continued with the K as the first digit until around 1970 when K999999 was reached and the factory then started placing the K within the digits ie 1K00001, 2K00001, up to 311K273 around 1983 when S&W started using the 3-letter, 4-digit Serial Number system (ie ABC1234) for all their guns. They were introduced in 1955 and in 1957 S&W started using the Model designation Model 19. 3", 4", (5" rare), or 6" barrel with shrouded ejector housing but the vast majority were 4". 357 Magnum is built on a slightly larger K frame with adjustable sights and could have a 2 1/2". ![]()
